What does By Appointment Only mean?

We are a custom wedding cake bakery specializing in unique designs, traditional cakes, and dessert bars, which means we only make what our clients order.

We do not have a storefront to place orders. You must do this through our website ordering form, or call us at 972-691-2253.

We schedule pick up times and deliveries throughout the week.

What is the best way to place an order?

The best thing for you to do is take some time and browse our website or social media. Once you have a general idea of the product that will fit your celebration the best, visit our online order form. This form asks all the necessary questions we need answered to complete your order request.  

Feel free to simply fill out this form online (after submitted, it is emailed to us), or give us a call. We require a 50% deposit at time of ordering. We will then confirm the receipt of your order and move it forward into production.

I left a voicemail on Friday, when can I expect my call to be returned?

Simply put, Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest days in the bakery. Please keep in mind during these busy days we are focusing on our orders and not usually able to answer the phone or check emails.

JLB is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so we return all calls and emails left during these days on Tuesdays and Wednesday.

How far in advance should I order my cake?

We usually ask for at least 2 weeks notice to prepare and prep for cake designs.

Wedding cakes are usually ordered 6-8 months in advance because our weekends do book up, especially during the busy seasons: March-June and September-November.

We book all our cakes on a first-come, first reserved basis. It is suggested that you reserve your date as soon as you know you will need a cake.  Because of our size, we only take a limited amount of orders each week.

When are you open for me to pick up my cake?

All pick up times are arranged with a one hour window.  Saturdays are between 9am and 2pm.  Other days the time will be arranged when you place the order.

What do I need to bring for my consultation?

Please come prepared.

Bring 2 or 3 design choices. You may choose from our Portfolio or any magazine photos, images from websites or your own sketches. Bring your color swatches (i.e. ribbon or paint chips) lace or wedding invitations. Anything you intend to incorporate into your cake we will need to see. 

If you choose to order with JLB you will need to be prepared to remit a $300.00 retainer which reserves our services and is non-refundable. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Cash and Check. The balance is due 2 weeks before your wedding.

Can I make changes to my order?

Changes to your cake size, description, flavors, etc. will be accepted until 2 weeks prior to the wedding date.

After that lockout date we cannot accept any changes. Changes may affect the price of the cake and not all changes may be accepted due to time constraints.

Do you rent cake stands?

Yes, stands are rented on a first come first serve basis.

All cake stands must be returned to the JLB within 5 days of your event. Large cake stands are $30.00 for rental, and multiple dessert stands are rented at $50.00 for up to 3-6 stands. Late or damaged pieces will result in charges for replacement.

Please wipe down all noticeable food or foreign material off the rented equipment or sets etc. but do not wash them. Fee for not returning stands will result in a $30.00 per day late charge (after the 5th day). A deposit of $100.00 is required to hold stand for rental.

Can I put my cake outside?

The Jenny Layne Bakery is not responsible for the condition of products following set-up at an outdoor venue/event -- due to effects of outdoor weather conditions, table on un-level ground, wind blowing, undesirable atmospheric items (ie; dirt, leaves, branches, sunlight) insects and other wildlife. You understand that products such as icing, frosting, filling, fondant, cake decorations etc. may not hold up and cannot be insured past satisfactory delivery and set-up or pick up.

Do you deliver your cakes?

Yes. We charge $50.00 flat delivery for all wedding/large specialty cakes. Delivery is priced at $2.00 per mile, on top of the $50 set up fee. If your event is during peak times of the year, we will deliver your cake within an hour window of your scheduled delivery time. We offer delivery & setup outside of normal business hours and on holidays in most cases.
